Savannah Girls Trip
Full of history, charm, and loads of fun, Savannah, Ga, is a perfect spot for your next girls trip. There is so much to do and see, such as, the beautiful Savannah river active with ginormous shipping boats, adorable tree lined parks dripping with Spanish moss, the absolute best restaurants, a local beach, and fun night clubs and bars to get your drink on! Let’s break this down…
The city has 22 parks or squares, located just walking distance from the river. Forsyth Park is the most famous of the parks, the most photographed, and the furthest from the river. It’s about a mile walk from the river to Forsyth Park and could take a while if you take in account the streets…we will talk about the streets of Savannah in just a few. If you stay near the river, which I suggest you do, take Bull street and walk to some of the close by squares and maybe hit up some of the galleries and boutiques along the way. Chippewa Square is where the famous bench scene is in Forest Gump. The bench is in a museum now but the spot is there and ready for that picture!
The cobblestone and brick streets are beautiful but also very uneven. I highly suggest you break in your new Golden Goose sneakers for this trip if you plan to walk around the city (which you should do!). You just can’t capture the city flare in a car or carriage like you can if you walk. Not to mention taking pictures! You will need to bring your best camera or have your iPhone charged up for all of the fabulous insta pics!
As for a place to stay, my very favorite Savannah hotel is the JW Marriott Plant Riverside District. This place is stunning! It opened officially in 2021 and it’s a hotel, museum, art gallery, all in one! If you stay here, you have it all at your fingertips….a sunny rooftop garden on one end of the hotel, a swanky rooftop bar in the center, and a strikingly cool rooftop pool on the other end! It sits directly on the river and has restaurants, boutiques, a spa, and galleries all throughout. Not to mention the dinosaur! You could spend a whole day exploring all of the crystals and fossils in this place. It’s like nothing you have ever seen…stunning! Must do at this place: go down the slide in the rooftop bar, Electric Moon Book a table for jazz brunch in the garden at Myrtle & Rose Grab some pizza at Graffito and watch the shipping boats go by Have happy hour at Baobab Lounge and then head to Stone & Webster Chophouse (this is an inside walk of about 50 feet, maybe. This is the night to wear your heels because you won’t leave the building.) for a delicious steak and wine dinner. It’s a classy, sexy restaurant with amazing food!!!
Lounge in the pool in one of the sleek white chairs Take a tour of the crystals, fossils, and galleries throughout the hotel and buy something from the gift shop to remind you of your fun times!
Okay, if the JW is booked or out of your price range, another favorite is the boutique hotel, The Mansion on Forsyth Park. Every single inch of this place is Instagram worthy. And, it’s located on the biggest and most popular park in the area. It’s a super swanky place that’s been around a while but keeps its visitors coming back because of how sexy it is! Yes, it’s sexy..but not too sexy for just your gal pals…call it “girly”. And only a mile from river street so grab your sneakers and walk there if you want to burn some calories!
A very popular “touristy” thing to do is to take a drive out to Tybee Island, stopping at the Original Crab Shack on your way. It’s an outdoor seafood restaurant and has live alligators that you can feed. I had shrimp and crab legs and loved them but I did NOT go near the alligators!
As for restaurants in the city, I have a friend, Lisa, who visits the city a lot. She took me to several places that I would happily go to again!
~First is Circa 1875, a casual-ish French bistro where, after many drinks, I discovered Absinthe! Beware…it’s strong! (Hence the slight slurring of my voice in the video). Food was impeccable and service was the best!
~Even though one of my friends tripped and fell on the way, once we got there, dinner at The Grove Restaurant and Bar was so worth it! They had live music playing and a drink called the Champagne Pop that you MUST order… if only for the photo-op! If the weather is right, the rooftop bar is fab!
~The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market is a bar, coffee shop, and restaurant using local sourced ingredients in a cool atmosphere…I liked this place! Food was excellent! Attached hotel is Perry Lane.
For late night dancing, I thoroughly enjoyed the dj at Electric Moon, but also the live music interspersed with dj music at Barrelhouse South (walking distance from The Grove if you want to combine those for a night).
I haven’t tried these places but my friend frequents and highly recommends:
Jen’s and Friends Starland Yard & Water Witch Tiki & Worm Hole Bar (apparently all close together)
Other hotel recommendations but I haven’t been here:
The Bohemian
